The Power of Collaboration: How Regional AI Cooperation Can Shape the Maghreb’s Future

Why regional cooperation could be the Maghreb's key to AI dominance. See the trends shaping North Africa's tech collaborations.

Regional cooperation is emerging as a crucial element in the Maghreb’s pursuit of AI leadership. According to a recent TRENDS Research & Advisory report, the future of AI in the region hinges on cross-border partnerships, increased investments in technological infrastructure, and support for academic research. Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia are actively implementing national AI policies, but challenges persist in countries like Libya and Mauritania due to political instability and limited funding.

To address these disparities, the report recommends the establishment of shared research centers, regional AI conferences, and joint investments in AI-driven public services. Such initiatives could foster a unified Maghreb capable of competing on the global stage, leveraging AI to enhance digital governance, healthcare, and smart city projects.

As Morocco advances its Vision 2030 goals, collaborative AI initiatives could further boost the region's readiness for major global events, including the 2030 World Cup, where AI technologies could enhance security, transportation, and fan engagement.
